Akamai to Support World IPv6 Launch

Yesterday (on June 5, 2012), Akamai Technologies, the leading provider of cloud platform and web optimization solutions, announced that it will be participating in the World IPv6 today from which many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Web Companies will permanently switch to using IPv6 instead of IPv4, and provide its customers with a smooth transition to IPv6.

With the IPv4 addresses running out, a faster transition to IPv6 is the correct technological step, and by committing to provide IPv6 for its customers, Akamai enables them to use their IPv4 origin websites and still reach out to IPv4 and IPv6 audiences. Akamai is also helping more than 715 hostnames across 20+ US Government agencies in helping them move to IPv6 before the Government deadline of September 20, and by deploying its IPv6 enabled servers in more than 500 locations around the globe, Akamai ensures that any visitor to its customer website will be mapped through a reliable IPv6 path.

Akamai mentioned that it had worked closely with Cisco to create a solution that it tested on World IPv6 day in 2011, and the two Companies have worked further on it to ensure a permanent move to IPv6 network architecture.
