OnApp Plans Expansion, Adds Office in Utah

This Wednesday (on February 15, 2012), OnApp, one of the leading providers of cloud optimization and Content Delivery Network software solutions, announced that it is planning to expand its operations in the United States in 2012 by adding a new office at Utah and also opening various hiring openings for strategic positions in the organization. Among the recent hiring includes the appointment of Behshad Behnam as the North American Director of Sales and Chris Younger as a Pre Sales Specialist. Apart from this, OnApp is also planning to hire two more strategic sales positions in the next couple of months to expand its North American operations further. The Company’s new Utah office will be used as a key center for its Level-1 Support operations. This center officially open by the end of February, and its operations will be lead by Ryan Weight, who is the First Line Support Manager. OnApp mentioned that it was seeing huge growth in the North American market, and this expansion will be done to support the growing customer base. The Company will increase its staff in the US region by almost 50% in 2012.

EdgeCast Doubles Revenue in 2011 as Compared to 2010

Yesterday (on January 31, 2012), EdgeCast Networks, the world’s fastest and most reliable Content Delivery Network service provider, announced that it had doubled all, its revenue, customer base and employee headcount in the fruitful year 2011 as compared to the respective numbers in 2010, thus showcasing the Company’s strong growth. Among the major changes included the expansion of EdgeCast Networks in providing licensed CDN services to various telecommunication Companies including a major telco in the US and Pacnet in Asia, and the EdgeCast Application Delivery Network offering for dynamic site acceleration. The Company also added PoP in Madrid and Osaka, and with its fast performance and 100 percent uptime record, the CDN provider added more than a thousand new customers in 2011, including big names like DailyMotion and Imgur, thus crossing 4000 customers. EdgeCast Networks mentioned that it was extremely happy with the numbers, and 2011 had been a record year of growth. The management mentioned that while they are proud of the good results, the Company is now focusing on making 2012 an even more successful year in terms of growth and network reach.

GoGrid Adds EMEA HQ and Data Center at Amsterdam

This Wednesday (on January 25, 2012), GoGrid, one of the leading providers of cloud-based infrastructure services, announced that it had added its EMEA headquarters, GoGrid AMS BV at Amsterdam. Apart from this, GoGrid also added an Equinix-based data center in Amsterdam to support its EMEA network reach and expand further. GoGrid mentioned that it already had network reach in San Francisco, CA and Ashburn, VA, and since it had a lot of international clients, expanding into the EMEA region made a lot of business sense, thus pushing the Company further on its way to become a global acceleration services provider. The new Data Center in Amsterdam would leverage Equinix’s marketplace of more than 680 network providers and would allow GoGrid to also sell its cloud solutions to more than 4000 equinix participants. The Company mentioned that it had performed extremely well in 2011, and expected to grow further in 2012 by expanding into the EMEA markets owing to its new Data Center and Head Quarters in the EMEA region.

Verizon Announces Plans for its Video Content Delivery Network Platform

Recently, Verizon, one of the leading providers of bundled solutions like wireless devices, TV, Internet and businesses, announced that it is working on a streaming video content delivery solution and video advertising platform for its customers. The solution is actually a Verizon-powered Content Delivery Network aimed at the enterprise customers of Verizon. The Verizon platform supports true unicast delivery, with support for multiple screens, multiple networks and diverse devices. The system also makes use of adaptive technology and comes with various monetizing options so the customers can make use of the advertising solutions for their content. Apart from this, Verizon also mentioned that the new platform would allow its customers to have unmatched scalability and the wide array of analytics will also provide them with ability to make better marketing decisions. The Company also leverages its internal backbone that has a capacity between 40-100 Gbps, has deployed 30 data centers around the globe, owing to which its customers can stream and manage data at extremely fast speeds.

NTT Upgrades its US-Japan Backbone Capacity to 600 Gbps

This Monday (on November 19, 2011), NTT Communications, one of the leading providers of global networks, IT services and optimized content delivery solutions, announced that it upgraded the data-capacity of its Global IP Network connection between Japan and US to a whopping 600 gigabits per second capacity. The new capacity will allow NTT to stream data equivalent to more than 35 thousand digital TV channels, and this new connectivity is expected to help the Company in meeting the growing network requirements in the region. The network is one of the core IPv6 networks from NTT and supports both IPv4 and IPv6 due to its dual-stuck nature. NTT mentioned that because of the increase in Internet usage for both personal and business needs due to social networking, cloud-computing and other rich-media streaming, the Company decided to increase its capacity to 600 Gbps. NTT also mentioned that this increase was done to ensure high QoS to its end users, and it was only 4 months back that the Company had upgraded to 500 Gbps, and this latest jump to 600 Gbps shows the Company’s dedication in addressing the high bandwidth requirements more effectively.

Aryaka Boasts of Great Progress of its Cloud-based WAN Optimization

Yesterday (on December 19, 2011), Aryaka, the world’s first provider of cloud-based WAN optimizations and application acceleration services, announced that 2011 had been a great year for the Company and it had not only built a stable and scalable solution, but also got a growing customer base for its secure global network solutions. What Aryaka does is that it combines multiple access methods, data and applications and also supports content delivery through various data centers using the cloud, thus allowing huge performance gains, while reducing the overall complexity that normal MPLS or Content Delivery Networks would have to face. The Company also mentioned that various CDN providers are planning to partner with it, and the enterprises that have adopted Aryaka’s solutions are seeing performance improvements as high as 70 times, whereas their WAN traffic has also reduced to almost 98% by localizing and intelligent routing and network connectivity. The startup also mentioned that its customer base is growing steadily; it now has 25 PoP locations around the globe and it is getting more industry recognition and acceptance. Ajit Gupta, the Founder, President and CEO of Aryaka, also mentioned that they are looking forward for a great 2012, where they want to reinforce its reputation as an industry leader and reach out further through expansion and partnership programs.

Kondoot Launches Operations in the US

This Thursday (on December 15, 2011), Kondoot, the Australia-based social networking website that is built around live video streaming, announced that it would be starting its operations in the US. The free service was launched about three-and-a-half months ago, and it allows users to have an easy-to-use platform for video-based social events. Mark Cracknell, the owner of Kondoot, mentioned that the launch that the Company had so far grown by word-of-mouth and there seems to be a lot of potential for this solution, especially for hosting backstage events of concerts or seminars. As of now, the Company provides streams as well as games to its customers, and along with the US launch, the Company is also promoting its new scheduling feature that would allow users to schedule their events. The Company makes its profits by selling mobile-based games and charges a portion of the paid event tickets. Kondoot is currently funded privately and has raised about 800 thousand USD so far with most contributions coming from the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board. The Company will also be meeting various venture capitalists in the Silicon Valley following its US launch.

NTT and Salesforce.com Announce Go-Live of Tokyo Data Center

This Tuesday (on December 13, 2011), NTT Communications, the provider of managed hosting services and Salesforce.com, one of enterprise cloud computing companies, announced that their joint Tokyo datacenter had gone live. This data center is expected to help their customers in getting scalable cloud computing infrastructure for meeting their business needs. The Tokyo data center is built keeping various green ideals in mind and is in conjunction with NTT Communication’s eco-conscious operations. This data center is poised to support Salesforce.com’s social enterprise services for more than a hundred thousand customers around the globe. Various data and space efficient design will also allow the center to host more than 3500 servers, to make the data center sufficient for meeting Salesforce.com’s expansion and rapidly growing customer base in Asia Pacific region. Salesforce.com also mentioned that opening of this Data Center shows the Company’s commitment for expansion in the region. Both the Companies mentioned that they were happy with the collaboration and NTT said that it had established a trusted relationship with Salesforce.com by providing it with global network services and VPN-based connectivity.

Internap’s Dallas Data Center to Go-Live From December 15

Internap CDNYesterday (on December 13, 2011), Internap Network Services Corporation, one of the leading providers of intelligent and scalable infrastructure solutions, announced that its new 55,000 square feet commercial space providing Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Data Center located in Plano, Texas, will be officially opened on December 15, 2011 (i.e. tomorrow). The new Data Center not only uses the modular power configurations of up to 12KW per rack and follows amongst the best green designs and energy efficient solutions, which has also led to the Data Center’s applying for LEED, Green Globes and Energy Star Certifications. Internap mentioned that with the businesses growing in DFW area, the current data center space was expected to get exhausted by 2013 and the new Data Center is expected to provide buffer to this growth by providing managed hosting, colocation as well as Internap’s patented MIRO route-optimized Performance IP services. Internap mentioned that it will have an official open house tomorrow between 4PM to 7PM CT, and Roger Staubach will make a special guest appearance at the inauguration event.

Amazon Adds 3 New PoP for its CloudFront Services

Last week, Amazon Web Services, the web-related and infrastructure solutions providing entity of Amazon, announced that it had added three more locations for its Amazon CloudFront Content Delivery Network offering. The new Points of Presence are located at New York, San Jose and Indiana and the addition of these locations brings the PoP tally of CloudFront to 24 global locations. The CloudFront management mentioned that they are looking at adding more and more locations to the list, and the addition of the new locations is done considering demand, customer interaction and checking the latency of the network from various locations around the globe. Apart from these 3 new locations, Amazon also added four new ElastiCache regions, which include North California, Dublin, Singapore and Tokyo, thus covering US, Europe and Asia Pacific respectively. At its end, CloudFront also mentioned that it is continuously monitoring its network, checking the bandwidth prices and working towards adding more locations in 2012 that will provide cheaper and better network presence for its customers.
