Akamai Launches Kona Site Defender Offering

Yesterday (on February 21, 2012), Akamai Technologies, one of the most leading providers of cloud-based web optimization and security offerings, announced the launch of the Akamai Kona Site Defender, which is a service designed to protecting enterprise websites from various threats and protect their applications and transactions from an array of attacks. The Kona Site Defender makes use of the Akamai global network to provide immense scalability and protection against attacks like DDoS, TCP SYN floods, UDP floods and other network layer attacks. Apart from this, the solution provides various configuration rules to protect against HTTP protocol violations, limit HTTP request and policy limits and protection against SQL injections, cross site scripting and other application layer attacks. The system also comes with a web application firewall and analytic information to allow organizations in gauging and protecting their content better. Akamai mentioned that it has seen a huge burst in online attacks, and the Kona Site Defender is aimed to protect its customers against these attacks. The solution is currently in limited availability and will be made available to general public from April 11, 2012.

SoftLayer Unveils Searchable Object Storage Offering

Last Tuesday (on February 14, 2012), SoftLayer Technologies, the leading provider of dedicated and cloud-based hosting services, announced the availability of the production version of its redundant and highly scalable cloud storage service for faster search and retrieval of data from SoftLayer’s CDN or global private network, the SoftLayer Object Storage solution. This offering is built on top of OpenStack Object Storage and it provides additional features like fast and integrated indexing and search, native integration with SoftLayer’s CDN and a rich metadata support. These additional aspects allow it to support faster search, storage on SoftLayer’s redundant hardware around the globe and a very powerful toolkit to manage user content using SoftLayer’s Customer portal and mobile applications as well as an API to allow scripts to leverage the architecture. SoftLayer mentioned that the Object Storage is priced at about 12 cents/GB and bandwidth utilization. The service is already made available for its US customers, and will be available for its global customers by end of February 2012.

Mirror Image Internet Unveils a “Serve All-Devices and All-Protocols” Solution

Yottaa Unveils Content Delivery Network Offering

This Monday (on February 13, 2012), Yottaa Inc., one of the providers of web performance solutions and cloud routing and network technologies, announced the launch of Yottaa CDN – the Company’s new Content Delivery Network offering, which supports both static and dynamic caching and also features various content optimization options. The Yottaa CDN offering also offers dynamic site acceleration (DSA), thus allowing the customers to improve their end-user experience by speeding up even the dynamic content. Apart from this, since the solution directly integrates with the Yottaa Site Speed Optimizer, not only is the configuration and implementation much easier, but also it provides extremely fast performance. Limelight Networks Launches Managed CDN Offering, the Limelight Deploy

Yesterday (on February 7, 2012), Limelight Networks, one of the leading providers of Content Delivery Network services and solutions, announced that they are formally launching their Managed CDN platform offering, the Limelight Deploy. This offering is aimed at allowing network operators, telecom companies and content aggregators to quickly deploy CDN on their existing infrastructure. These enterprises and customers are looking at ways in which they can leverage their existing infrastructure and implement Content Delivery Networks to improve the scalability and performance of their networks, thus reducing the infrastructure costs and time-to-market their solutions. The proprietary CDN solution also allows customers to keep their data secure, while also allowing customers an option to leverage Limelight’s network, thus allowing more than 85% data to be delivered from the public Internet and ensuring high quality-of-service for the end users. Limelight Deploy will work with HTTP, HTTPS, Flash and Windows Media and also provide various analytics information to the users. The Company also presented the Limelight Deploy offering in a work shop at the CDN Asia 2012 Conference.

Highwinds Moving Towards to HTTP Streaming from RTMP

Last Friday (on February 3, 2012), Highwinds, one of the leading providers of Content Delivery Networks and online video streaming solutions, announced that it is moving towards supporting HTTP streaming for its content publishing customers and slowly but steadily remove support for streaming the content using the RTMP. In the current times, most of the CDN providers are moving towards the cacheable HTTP streaming options, and while multiple providers like Apple, Microsoft and Adobe have their own HTTP streaming protocols, the standardized DASH protocol is slowly becoming universal. Apart from this, with the scope of innovation being limited in RTMP, Companies like Akamai and Amazon are moving towards HTTP streaming, and Highwinds is also following the suit. Highwinds also mentioned that it is planning a strategy, which will enable them to surpass Akamai’s HDNetwork in the HTTP Streaming area. Moreover, for customers using H.264 protocols, the move is pretty straight-forward and iOS gets supported for free, and so Highwinds is working hard to move its SMIL customers to the new system. The Company still supports RTMP, but it is in the process of moving its customers to HTTP, and has stopped accepting orders of new customers who request for RTMP streaming.

SoftLayer to Support True Hybrid Cloud Hosting using Flex Images

Last Wednesday (on February 1, 2012), SoftLayer Technologies, the leading provider of dedicated and cloud-based hosting services, announced the launch of Flex Images, its new Unified Server provisioning platform, which will allow customers capture, replicate and store an image of a cloud or dedicated server and then deploy it into either type of computing environment. Basically, the introduction of Flex images will allow SoftLayer customers to have Universal images, which can be used interchangeably on dedicated and cloud systems, thus allowing complete flexibility and scalability. The system supports all important features like sharing, publishing, managing and archiving of images, thus allowing customers to rapidly migrate from one system to another. SoftLayer mentioned that the features are available via both the management portal as well as API to provide customers with easy deployment and better control. The Flex images offering is expected to be a key differentiator for SoftLayer, and the Company mentioned that the offering is made available to its customers as public beta, and the general availability is expected to come sometime in Q2, 2012.

VBrick Launches the First Standards-Based Solution Video Conferencing Solution

This Tuesday (on January 31, 2012), VBrick Systems, the leading provider of IP video solutions for enterprises, announced the launch of a Video Conference Streaming Gateway module, which will integrate with its H.264 Distributed Media Engine (DME) and allow customers to connect tens of thousands of viewers in video conferences. GigaSpaces Unveils Multi-site Data Replication Solution

Last Thursday (on January 26, 2012), GigaSpaces Technologies, one of the leading pioneers of next-generation application platforms, announced the launch of its new Multi-Site Data Replication offering, which allow customers to leverage GigaSpaces market-leading in-memory data grid (IMDG) and scaling technology to replicate their data over WAN. Limelight Networks Collaborates with Conviva for Better Online Video

Yesterday (on January 26, 2012), Limelight Networks, one of the leading providers of innovative Content Delivery Network services, announced that it had entered in a strategic alliance with video quality optimization and analytics provider, Conviva, to integrate the offerings of both Companies and provide better online video streaming capabilities to its customers. The integration will merge the analytics information provided by Conviva and merge it with the global computing platform of Limelight Networks, to allow the latter’s customers to get various real time reports and information of how their content is being viewed and also how the CDN is performing. Apart from this, the analytics also allows the reports to be created based on geographic filters, user devices and support for various cross-platform technologies like Flash, Silverlight and HTML 5, along with RTMP and HTTP streaming protocols. Both Limelight Networks and Conviva were happy to launch the joint offering that allows users to leverage both CDN capabilities and still have in-depth reports; and the solution is called “Embedded Insights”.
