Last Thursday (on July 7, 2011), Cisco Networks, which provides a variety of networking related hardware and services,
announced the launch of its Cisco Enterprise Content Delivery System. This new offering combines a suite of various video distribution products that can be used by the content creators and publishers to deliver both live and on-demand high quality content to their audiences.
The Cisco ECDS leverages the Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) virtual blade from Cisco to provide various WAN optimizations and ensure fast delivery of content. The system comes with 3 deployment options, which include the Cisco Media Delivery Engine 1100, the Cisco MDE 3100 and the Cisco MDE 50WVB to scale the networks based on the audience. The system not only makes use of a single stream that can be transcoded, but also allows support for all the major video formats including Flash, H.264 and Windows Media on PCs, laptops, tablet devices and smart phones.
Cisco also mentioned that this ECDS will work seamlessly with its other applications and the offering would be available worldwide, with the lowest option priced at $4395.
