This Wednesday (on May 9, 2012), Ericsson, one of the world leaders in communications technology and services, announced that launch of its Smart Cloud Accelerator solution, which is aimed at complementing their Mobile Cloud Accelerator (MCA), which optimizes the content delivery from mobile operators and the Media Delivery Network (MDA), which is its video delivery CDN.
With more and more customers are now looking at delivering higher amount of over-the-top video content at faster rates, the Smart Cloud Accelerator is aimed at providing faster content delivery while also reducing the network congestion and costs. Ericsson will leverage the unified caching technology from Akamai, the global leader in CDN industry and provide the users with a fast performing network that optimizes OTT video and allows monetization of cloud content by leveraging its Ericsson SSR 8000 family of routing gateways.
At its end, Ericsson mentioned that it was happy with the new offering and that it initially would provide the Smart Cloud Accelerator in RAN infrastructure. Apart from this, the Company would also increase the operator CDN reach by federating with partners on the Akamai Intelligent Platform.
