Mark Vargo Named Akamai’s Senior VP for EMEA Region
This Wednesday (on January 25, 2012), Akamai, the leading cloud platform and content delivery network services provider, announced that it had selected Mark J. Vargo as the Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA. In this role, Mark Vargo will report to Robert Hughes, Akamai’s Executive Vice President of Global Sales, Services and Marketing and will lead all Akamai’s operations in EMEA.
Mark will be based in Zurich and comes with more than 25 years of executive leadership experience from places including IBM, IDC, GiantLoop Networks and others. In his stint at IBM, Mark designed and launched various cloud and storage initiatives in the EMEA region, and was also one of the founding members of the EMC Corporation in EMEA. Mark had been working as the Chief Strategy Officer for IBM since 2006, and Akamai mentioned that they were happy to get him aboard since the Company was looking at expanding aggressively in the pan-EMEA region.
At his end, Mark mentioned that he was happy to be selected by Akamai, and that he looked forward to expand Akamai’s services and offerings further in the EMEA.
