SimpleCDN Betrayed, MaxCDN to the Rescue
This Saturday (on December 11, 2010), in a dramatic change of events, the infrastructure service providers of the Content Delivery Network services provider SimpleCDN, SoftLayer and Hosting Services Inc. suddenly pulled the plug of their services leaving the customers of SimpleCDN in a lurch, just before Christmas.
The actual story is that SimpleCDN used to have the 10TB and 100TB offerings of Hosting Inc. for providing their CDN services, and suddenly, Hosting Inc. added the clause to their Terms-of-Service that running a CDN is prohibited on their network, and failure to comply with this will lead to immediate termination of the services. In addition, this clause was not present in the deal when SimpleCDN started using these services, and it is believed that Hosting Inc. and SoftLayer suddenly terminated the services to kill SimpleCDN, which is also a direct competitor to VPS.net (Hosting Inc.’s own CDN service).
The sudden stopping of services has led to the websites of many SimpleCDN customers go down, and hence to help the people in this time of crisis, MaxCDN, one of the fast growing and popular CDN providers has decided to help the SimpleCDN customers in transferring their web content to their CDN. Not only were the customers given support over the weekend, but MaxCDN also provided the SimpleCDN customers with a special discount, which is available by using the coupon “simplecdn” on the MaxCDN order page.
At its end, while SimpleCDN is going to fight this battle with SoftLayer and Hosting Inc. in the court of law; the Company has also appreciated the help provided by MaxCDN, and has asked its customers to move their content to MaxCDN to ensure that the websites remain up and running.
