SoftLayer Technologies, the leading provider of dedicated and cloud-based hosting services,
announced the availability of the production version of its redundant and highly scalable cloud storage service for faster search and retrieval of data from SoftLayer’s CDN or global private network, the SoftLayer Object Storage solution.
This offering is built on top of OpenStack Object Storage and it provides additional features like fast and integrated indexing and search, native integration with SoftLayer’s CDN and a rich metadata support. These additional aspects allow it to support faster search, storage on SoftLayer’s redundant hardware around the globe and a very powerful toolkit to manage user content using SoftLayer’s Customer portal and mobile applications as well as an API to allow scripts to leverage the architecture.
SoftLayer mentioned that the Object Storage is priced at about 12 cents/GB and bandwidth utilization. The service is already made available for its US customers, and will be available for its global customers by end of February 2012.
