Strong Rumors of Tata Communications Buying BitGravity
In the recent times, there are strong indications that Tata Communications, one of the leading providers of cable networks and Content Delivery Network solutions, is planning to buy out the media-streaming solutions provider BitGravity. Tata Communications had already invested $11.5 million in BitGravity in 2008, and currently owns 15% share of the Company.
The rumors of the acquisition gained strength during the vacation period since though the BitGravity management said that Tata Communications had not finalized on a deal yet, some of the BitGravity employees announced that they now work for Tata Communications. The deal is important for BitGravity, since this Company has been unable to leverage its live streaming products and improve their revenue. BitGravity has already been shaky since Barret Lyon left the Company in 2009, and hence joining Tata Communications will infuse new life into this media streaming solutions provider.
At its end, Tata Communication’s CDN service is based on BitGravity’s solution and hence buying that Company out would be a good move for the Tatas. However, since Tata Communications spokespersons did not comment on whether the acquisition bid was made, more information about the developments is not available as of now.
