Last Friday (on February 17, 2012), PEER1 Hosting, one of the leading providers of hosting and colocation services, announced that it had successfully completed consolidating all its servers from the Fleet data center to the Company’s new green Portmouth’s data center, while ensuring zero loss of critical information or customer outage.
To ensure that the servers were sent securely and smoothly, the Company worked at packing about 60 servers per day, powering them by 11PM and then moving them to the new facility by 5AM and powering them up-again. More than 1600 servers and disks storing more than 120TB of SAN data were transferred to the 5300 sq meter facility of Portsmouth. Owing to the professional mode of work and the sensibility with which the operation was managed, the devices were powered up at the new location in less than 6 hours, and no hardware damage was reported.
At its end, PEER1 mentioned that it was happy with the way in which the move happened, and this was the Company’s second migration after its consolidating its Atlanta Data Center in 2010.

This Wednesday (on January 25, 2012), GoGrid, one of the leading providers of cloud-based infrastructure services, announced that it had added its EMEA headquarters, GoGrid AMS BV at Amsterdam. Apart from this, GoGrid also added an Equinix-based data center in Amsterdam to support its EMEA network reach and expand further.
GoGrid mentioned that it already had network reach in San Francisco, CA and Ashburn, VA, and since it had a lot of international clients, expanding into the EMEA region made a lot of business sense, thus pushing the Company further on its way to become a global acceleration services provider. The new Data Center in Amsterdam would leverage Equinix’s marketplace of more than 680 network providers and would allow GoGrid to also sell its cloud solutions to more than 4000 equinix participants.
The Company mentioned that it had performed extremely well in 2011, and expected to grow further in 2012 by expanding into the EMEA markets owing to its new Data Center and Head Quarters in the EMEA region.

This Thursday (on January 12, 2012), Level 3 Communications, the leading provider of fiber-based communication services and Content Delivery Network solutions, announced that it was extremely happy to win a multi-million dollar contract with the Federal Government’s Defense Information Systems Agency.
The Defense Information Systems Agency mentioned that it had awarded Level 3 with an indefinite-delivery and indefinite-quantity contract, which should not cross 410,848,162 million dollars as part of cable operations and maintenance support. While the contract would have a nation-wide usage with performance evaluation across various locations, it would also have a period of performance of 10 consecutive years, which will be valid until Dec 29, 2021.
At its end, Level 3 mentioned that it was honored and proud for winning the contract and that it would continue to increase its focus for providing better communications, data and video solutions to the Government sector.

Yesterday (on December 22, 2011), ChinaCache, the leading provider of Content Delivery Network services in mainland China, announced that Shanxi Unicom, the Shanxi Branch of China Unicom and Wentian Technology, the first online game Company in Shanxi province of China, have made an agreement with the former to help them in making Shanxi’s largest cloud computing data center.
This data center will include various facilities like disaster recovery and high security to ensure that customers can be provided with advanced features of 3G, cloud computing and tri-networks integration among other things. The Companies mentioned that their strong complementary skills like Shanxi Unicom’s integrated communications network, Wentian Technology’s advanced software development skills and Chinacache’s CDN market and cloud technology expertise will help them build a strong synergy for creating and deploying the data center.
At its end, Chinacache mentioned that it was happy to be a part of the collaboration and stated that the Data Center will help in improving the network reach and emergence of new Internet-based Companies in the Shanxi region.

Yesterday (on December 13, 2011), Internap Network Services Corporation, one of the leading providers of intelligent and scalable infrastructure solutions, announced that its new 55,000 square feet commercial space providing Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Data Center located in Plano, Texas, will be officially opened on December 15, 2011 (i.e. tomorrow).
The new Data Center not only uses the modular power configurations of up to 12KW per rack and follows amongst the best green designs and energy efficient solutions, which has also led to the Data Center’s applying for LEED, Green Globes and Energy Star Certifications. Internap mentioned that with the businesses growing in DFW area, the current data center space was expected to get exhausted by 2013 and the new Data Center is expected to provide buffer to this growth by providing managed hosting, colocation as well as Internap’s patented MIRO route-optimized Performance IP services.
Internap mentioned that it will have an official open house tomorrow between 4PM to 7PM CT, and Roger Staubach will make a special guest appearance at the inauguration event.

Last Tuesday (on December 6, 2011), Telecom Italia Sparkle, one of the leading providers of Cloud Computing and infrastructure services in Europe, announced that it is helping MedNautilus in launch of various cloud-based solutions that cater to the high security and effective cost managed solution needs of the Turkish Corporations.
The Cloud solutions suite will comprise various modules from Basic Helpdesk support to various operational services that even includes status monitoring, proactive suggestions for improving flow and management support. Apart from this, MedNautilusNewGenerationDataCenter, which is also connected with the Tier-1 network of TI Sparkle and MedNautilus, with more than 6000 km of ring-configured regional submarine cable, will provide extremely secure colocation services and cater to the high speed network requirements. The current Data Center will have 5000 square meters commercial space in Istanbul.
TI Sparkle also mentioned that it is working with MedNautilus to expand its Catania Data Center and also build a new Data Center in Athens to provide best possible services for their customers in the Mediterranean region.

Yesterday (on November 30, 2011), Level 3 Communications, one of the leading providers of international fiber-based solutions, announced that it has won the “Best Latin American Wholesale Offering” award from the Capacity magazine for its development and implementation of wholesale strategy of network connectivity and colocation in the Latin America region.
With its range of IP-based services and solutions including VoIP, IP Ethernet, CDN, colocation and other offerings, Level 3 Communications has always been one of the premiere benchmarking Companies for these services in the region. Apart from this, Global Crossing, which was acquired by Level 3 Communications, had won this award in 2008 and 2009, which also gave Level 3 a head start in the competition, thus making the joint entity a true winner. Level 3 also mentioned that it was planning to keep expanding its services in the region to reach out to more and more customers.
Capacity magazine bestowed Level 3 with this award during the Capacity Europe 2011 event that was held in Amsterdam last week.

Yesterday (on October 17, 2011), PEER1 Hosting, the global IT hosting provider, announced that its new energy-efficient and environment-friendly data center at Langstone Technology Park, Portsmouth had “gone live” and the Company would now be able to provide managed and dedicated hosting along with colocation services to the south UK region.
Last week, PEER1 had already announced that the Data Center was due for operations and with its innovative design and power saving techniques the datacenter boasted of a predicted Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.1 as compared to the Industry average of 1.8, making it one of the greenest facilities in Europe. Apart from this, the data center boasts of security through biometric authentication, ultra sound technology and coordinated intruder alarms and various facilities like Wi-Fi conference rooms, auditorium and health centers.
PEER1 mentioned that it had invested about 45 million pound for making this world class colocation facility that would house 20000+ servers and connect directly with PEER1’s 10Gb fiber backbone.

This Tuesday (on October 11, 2011), Level 3 Communications, one of the leading providers of Content Delivery Network services and other fiber-based communication solutions, announced that Gaiki Inc. had selected Level 3 as the provider of a high performance, low latency online infrastructure for its cloud-based online gaming platform.

Yesterday (on October 11, 2011), PEER1 Hosting, one of the leading IT hosting providers in the world, announced its first UK-based colocation services for the local businesses of Bournemouth, Basingstoke, and Brighton. The Company will be offering these colocation services from its new state-of-the-art Portsmouth data center, which has a commercial space of 5372 sq. meter.
For improving the management of the space and the logistics, PEER1 has also partnered with the local construction company, Space & Solutions, to provide recreational facilities and other amenities to its colocation customers. With very short distance from London stock exchange, high speed network connections including a 10Gb connectivity backbone, predicted PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) rating of 1.1, extremely robust infrastructure and a room for 20,000 servers, the Portsmouth Datacenter is at par with the best among the colocation facilities around the world.
PEER1 mentioned that it was already holding seminars and campaigns to reach out to the local businesses and that this new facility is expected to be up and running sometime in mid-December.
