This Tuesday (on February 18, 2014), Akamai Technologies, one of the global leaders in Content Delivery Networks and web optimization solutions, announced that it had completed the acquisition of Prolexic Technologies, a Hollywood, Florida-based privately held Company that provides various cloud-based security solutions for protecting data centers from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
Akamai had announced of a definitive agreement to acquire Prolexic in early December last year, whereby the Company would acquire all the outstanding equity of Prolexic. The combination of the two Companies will enable Akamai to create a complete portfolio of security offerings that would secure its customers’ web and IP infrastructure against both application-layer and network-layer attacks as well as other modern DDoS attacks.
At its end, Akamai mentioned that it was happy to complete the acquisition of Prolexic and stated that it would now be able to improve its security offerings across its complete range of IP solutions. Akamai also mentioned that the acquisition is expected to improve Akamai’s Q1 revenue by 7-8 million USD.
