Akamai Technologies, the global leader in Content Delivery Networks, announced that as part of the final judgement in its long-running patent infringement case against its competitor and leading Content Delivery Network Provider, Limelight Networks, the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts had ruled that Limelight did infringe certain claims of U.S. Patent No. 6,108,703, and awarded it with nearly $51 million in damages.
At its end, Akamai mentioned that it is extremely pleased with the judgment after a decade-long litigation battles and stated at the Company already has a similar new patent infringement lawsuit, which involves a patent from the same Akamai patent family, and is scheduled for trial in Jan 2017 at the U.S. District Court in Virginia.
On the other hand, Limelight mentioned that the final $51 million is much lesser than the previously disclosed upper-end of range of loss of $63 million, and the Company’s Q2, 2016 will consider the $51 million damages.
