This Monday (on September 8, 2014), SoftLayer Technologies, an IBM subsidiary and a leading provider of managed hosting and cloud services, announced that it has collaborated with Intel to provide its customers with bare-metal servers that provide monitoring and security at the microchip level by leveraging the Intel Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT).
This collaboration makes SoftLayer IBM the only provider of bare-metal servers that make use of Intel TXT and enables customers to certify whether a cloud computing is appropriately compliant and secure for running their workloads. The bare-metal solutions support multiple compliance frameworks including HIPAA, PCI, FedRAMP, ISO, FISMA and SSAE16, and to have this feature, SoftLayer’s customers only need to order bare metal servers installed with a Trusted Platform module (TPM). As of now, SoftLayer supports Intel’s Xeon E5-2600 v2, Xeon E3-1200 v3 and Xeon E5-4600 processors with its Intel TXT feature.
At its end, both IBM and Intel mentioned that they were happy to work together and IBM stated that its new solution will help ensure the compliance and security needs of its customers in the healthcare, financial services and government domains.
