akamai-previewThis Monday (on December 2, 2013), Akamai Technologies, the leading provider of Content Delivery Networks and cloud-based streaming platform, and Prolexic Technologies, a cloud-based security solutions provider, announced that they had entered into a definitive agreement for Akamai to acquire Prolexic.

Akamai’s solutions already enable customers to mitigate DDoS and other application layer attacks by leveraging the scale and intelligence of its global platform, on the other hand, Prolexic provides better security and protection of data centers and enterprise IP applications against DDoS attacks through its security operations. By combining Prolexic’s solutions and security expertise into Akamai’s solutions, the CDN provider will be able to provide a comprehensive portfolio of security offerings that will enable its customers to have much better protection against all sorts of attacks.

Both the Companies mentioned that they were happy with the acquisition and Akamai will be buying all the outstanding equity of Prolexic with a net cash payment of about $370 million and the acquisition is expected to close by Q1, 2014.
